I am still not confident speaking. Can I attend a conversation class just to listen?

If you think this would help you more than using our free listening resources, then you are very welcome to attend. On entering the class, please use the chat function to let the tutor know (in any language) that you are there to listen.

You can then signal to the tutor if you feel confident to speak, and they will start to direct conversation towards you.

Can I attend a conversation class if I’m a beginner?

We recommend that the minimum level for conversation classes is A2 – for the intermediate class- and B2 for the advanced.

If you are a beginner, you will find the intermediate class difficult, as you will need to use the past tenses and other forms of grammar which you haven’t yet been taught.

What happens when I cancel my account?

When you cancel a Paid subscription, your account will revert to a Standard level account on your next renewal date. You can still use all of the features of the higher level until that point.

On your next renewal date, no payment will be taken for the Paid account, nor thereafter.

How do I cancel my account?

Cancelling your Paid account will take a few moments.

  • From your personal homepage, go to the “Account” tab.
  • Select “Change” or “Cancel” next to your current subscription level.
  • Select a new level to change, or follow the instructions to cancel.

What if I book a class at the wrong level? Can I get a refund?

Firstly, please don’t panic! Students subscribe to levels that are too easy or hard for them all the time, and tutors are good at spotting this. If you’re in a class that is at too low a level for you, your tutor will let you know as soon as they realise this – which is often the moment you open your mouth to introduce yourself.

If you feel you are in a class that is too hard for you, or you are struggling to understand any aspect of the material, you should raise this with your tutor at the end of a session. Please, do not delay in doing so – this is a “bread and butter” conversation for a language tutor. Their first action will be to try assess whether you are at the wrong level or simply “rusty”. If the latter, they will try to coach and support you in subsequent classes until your confidence returns.

If the former, they will notify LinguaBuddy’s admin team with a recommended study level for you. Our admin team will then offer you alternative classes you can join.

Where no suitable and convenient alternative is currently running, we would look to place you in the first available class at the correct level, and will discuss options with you for adjusting your subscription package in the interim period.

In the event that no course at the right level for you is scheduled within a three-month period, we would offer the option of a refund, or where you have attended three or more classes, a part refund.

I have a discount code. Where do I enter this?

Discount codes only apply to Premium accounts and can be entered when joining as or upgrading to a Premium account. Look for the link about the personal details section, and repeated above the Terms and Conditions. Enter your code here to adjust the price.

I have registered for a Plus / Premium account but I can’t post on the forum, register for events or access revision courses.

The first thing to check is your email inbox. In the confirmation message (sent by operations@linguabuddy.net) is a magic link that enables your account. This is an anti-spam measure.

If you have not already done so, click this link, then log out and log in again. You should now have access to everything you’re entitled to.

What is your refund and cancellation policy?

We do not offer refunds for Plus accounts.

For Premium accounts, we do not offer refunds for unused entitlements (ie non-attendance at classes). As we only require payment 1-2 weeks in advance of the course start date, we expect users to know their availability for the forthcoming 12 weeks when they pay.

As such, any cancellation after upgrading will not result in a refund, but in those circumstances we will do our best to help the affected student find an acceptable alternative course.

We will offer a refund, part-refund or alternative where due to the fault of LinguaBuddy, we are not able to fulfil a course, or substantial part thereof, as advertised.

Is my money secure?

Of course. We use a leading supplier of membership management software to control access to the site, and connect to Stripe through that software to process subscription payments. Stripe is the leading payment gateway for online business, and are so ubiquitous we are willing to bet that you have already used them for an online payment… you just might not realise it.
